Definition of MesotherapyMesotherapy is medical treatments used to "spot" reduce fat in troublesome areas like love handles, saddlebags, bulging stomachs and cellulite. Used since the 1960s, it is the most effective non-surgical alternative to liposuction in reducing unwanted fat. Developed in Europe in the early 1950s, mesotherapy has been used in France for cosmetic purposes for 40 years. (The French have historically been ahead of the U.S. in cosmetic procedures such as liposuction and chemical peels!)
Mesotherapy TreatmentTiny amounts of medications, vitamins and homeopathic ingredients are injected into the skin or layers of tissue just beneath the skin. The goals of treatment determine the type of injections and medicines used. For example, treatment of cellulite is with a particular formula of medications that is entirely different from that used to dissolve fat. Dr. Ellis received her mesotherapy specialty training from Dr. Robert Pitera, a pioneer in the practice of both Mesotherapy and the Lipo-Dissolve technique in the United States. Dr. Pitera is one of a handful of physicians to be Board Certified in Mesotherapy. Dr. Pitera is the Vice president of the American Board of Mesotherapy and is on the Board of Directors of both the American Society of Mesotherapy and the American Journal of Mesotherapy. Through her training with Dr. Pitera, Dr. Ellis is a candidate for the American Board of Mesotherapy.
